Quote of the Day: Progress

As my esteemed colleague wrote below, it’s been quiet on the blog front for some time. Yours truly moved across the country for a new gig, and after a long day of obsessively following the news, it’s hard to muster the energy to think critically about anything more serious than a baseball game. Nevertheless, back in the saddle … hope springs eternal … etc. Here’s your quote of the day:

If one of our children grows up to invent a way to move goods and bits of information even more rapidly around the world, we rightly call that “progress”; if another child grows up to become a populist politician who advocates raising trade barriers to slow the movement of those same goods and data across borders, we perversely call that “progressive.”
