Sieg Fuckin’ Heil, Man.

Slashdot is reporting that the Obama Administration is warning graduate students (of all people) against publicly admitting that they’ve read any of the Wikileaks documents because… you know…  it might harm their future career prospects:

Hi students,

We received a call today from a SIPA alumnus who is working at the State Department.  He asked us to pass along the following information to anyone who will be applying for jobs in the federal government, since all would require a background investigation and in some instances a security clearance.

The documents released during the past few months through Wikileaks are still considered classified documents. He recommends that you DO NOT post links to these documents nor make comments on social media sites such as Facebook or through Twitter. Engaging in these activities would call into question your ability to deal with confidential information, which is part of most positions with the federal government.

Regards,
Office of Career Services

So, apparently does this guy not only approve of this guy getting all up close and personal with your genitals, but he apparently has no problem with his State Department threatening graduate students who openly admit that they’ve read certain documents. Get used to it, pleb.

I mean, for all his (many, many) faults, at least George W. Bush’s State Department never stooped to threatening anyone who read the 9/11 Commission Report. Seriously? Is the this “hope and change” everyone voted for? Then again, I guess it’s all good, because the Obama Administration, and I quote, “is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government” and “work[ing] together to ensure the public trust and establish[ing] a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our democracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in Government.” [emphasis added]

Yeah… sure thing. At what point do people stop believing these assholes?

Openness will strengthen our democracy, as long as “openness” means that the public is discouraged from knowing that the Obama Administration is selling access to the Rock-Star-In-Chief President in return for political favors.

I guess it’s a good thing that the Wikileaks cables haven’t been published in book form yet. Otherwise, Janet Napolitano might have to come up with some specious reason to set them all on fire in front of the Washington Monument to protect us all against the terrorists.

Stuff like this always makes me wonder why the folks who’re so terrified of the power of transnational corporations are so often reflexive and uncritical supporters of state power. Last I heard, Monsanto and Dell weren’t threatening my future livelihood for the “crime” of reading certain documents.

And yeah, I’m totally cognizant of the fact that I’m guilty of reductio ad Hitlerum. But seriously, what does it say about the Obama Administration and the State Department that they are are actively telling potential analysts that, publicly at least, they should pretend to be even more ignorant than the general public, which can glean all this information from national publications like the New York Times?

It says that they’re insecure thugs, actually. Hope and change, dude. Hope you didn’t vote for these guys.

No, you’re the fascist because you’re obviously one of those Tea Party kooks. You’d have to be a crazed, right-wing nutjob to run around agitating for “government transparency” AKA demolition of the IRS building. Why are you so intentionally obstructionist? Obama is just trying to get something done after eight years of Our Long National Nightmare.
