Tensions Heating in the Middle East

Nerves are frayed this evening in the Levant, as news is coming out that Israeli forces have been routed in Lebanon. Reliable information is scarce at this point, but early reports indicate massive casualties, chief among them Israeli national pride.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly promised “swift and brutal retaliation” and has been quoted as saying “[t]he state of Israel will not stand for these continued violations of its security. While we do not wish the people of Lebanon any harm, those responsible for this incident will be brought to justice.”

Lebanese Prime Minister Sayid Hariri, for his part, remains defiant, vowing that an Israeli counter-attack would only end in disaster.
