New Oregon gov watchdog launched

An online news outlet focusing solely covering Oregon politics has recently been launched. Called The Oregon Politico, the site will cover state and local governments. From the Web site:

Recent years have seen a marked decline in news reporting on Oregon’s state government and legislature. Many important stories on government and the political process go unreported because traditional news outlets are unable to cover them. The Oregon Politico is dedicated to filling this gap and telling those stories that otherwise would not be told.

The project is being bankrolled by the Cascade Policy Institute, Oregon’s only free-market think tank. However, the site claims the only bias the writers have is “a dedication to open government and transparency.”

With the Oregonian laying off more and more people everyday, this is exactly the kind of stuff Oregon needs to keep our government accountable. The writers seem to have the right idea, and so far their stuff looks pretty sharp. Check it out if you’re a state politics wonk. (You know who you are.)

You should put it in the “stuff we like” list.
